This school is horrible. None of the kids or staff care about you, there is constant bullying from left and right and NO ONE does anything about it. They don't even do anything about sexual harassment. Me and my friend went to the PRINCIPAL of the school and reported how we were getting sexually harassed verbally and the principal only said "we'll talk to him" and that's it. That's all they ever did. No one ever does anything for you in this school. It is a living nightmare. It will ruin your mental health. The only way you'll ever pass in this school is if you're popular and smart. No one cares for the kids who struggle. No one cares for the kids with autism. No one cares at all. I hate this school, Fort Defiance and Stewart Middle school are HORRIBLE. They do nothing to aid you, nothing to help you. They don't care about you. They'll only ever care about you if you have good grades and are athletic. I'm so sick of this school, it's completely ruined me.

I don’t know why someone would complain, because there’s white students and their Christian. Should they change their skin color and religion, to accommodate others? For the review at the top complaining, what would you like them to do? No longer practice their religion, so you feel better? I attended this school, my daughter was at this school during the pandemic. Many times I went in, everyone had a mask on. This is a wonderful school, a safe school and I’m sorry it doesn’t pander to people that can’t handle others that are different.

School was great if you're white and christian. Not as much if you're and different. Lots of bullying goes undetected and even when it is reported, oftentimes nothing is done. The teachers were nice but the last I heard the best of them have already left. Councillors were fine. Students often chose not to wear masks during the height of the pandemic too, and most people didn't do anything about it. That's not as relevant but I think it speaks levels about the school environment.

This school just doesn’t care about other people. What I mean by this is, let’s say you are athletic and have a good sports career and you do something bad. Do you get in trouble no, not at all, but if you are just like me and really don’t do anything but you do one thing bad you get the longest suspension ever. This school only cares about the rich and athletic people. Worst school ever.

We have had four children pass through this school. We have been extremely pleased with the teachers, administrators, and courses offered. We feel that our children were well prepared for the next step in life.

Their are no advocates in this particular area. Through my personal experiences with the schools handling of developing education pathways to help all students.. they are seriously not willing to do any more than necessary. This is a public school learning facility, that is coming against my child and my efforts to be active parent in my child's education. They have not followed procedure, or their own policy rules. I clearly feel they have counted on me as a parent, to fail or give up or not know my rights, nor be able to financially contribute to any effective legal representation. I was undiagnosed thru my school years graduated 1998, I was a child left behind. I have been diagnosed as adhd, as an adult. I have some clear issues with socializing, organization has been challenging. NECESSARY LIFE SKILLS, managing oneself and any sort of Challenges, or shortcoming, are not automatic failures. I refuse the opinion of the administration to categorize my ADHD son, who is lacking in social function, behavior thru impulsive act, inability neurologically to think through and reason. He has been provided nothing to strengthen him, or to give him any positive emotional supports, lifes social skills necessary or the communication skills to be able to effectively communicate his needs.
Guess what, I have strength and a belief in, every child deserves more than your willing to prove. Your simply harming children and their futures by being no more tolerant than you are to accepting being called out for your inability to make a difference. So in your defiance to accept change, you have given me the confidence to use my once called weaknesses, now to my strengths and to effectively fight for my child's rights to not be left behind, or given an opportunity or choice.

The purpose is to provide education, a collaboration between teachers and parenta and educators. As a parent I feel that they are not on board with providing education free and appropriate to everyone, not their management of procedural safeguards, or child find laws. They dont provide or outwardly support educating parents to understand what rights do exist nor do that advocate or commit to improving their own lack of providing students with a disabilty opportunity to achieve anything more. free and appropriate education opportunities, or life skills,

The lack of the administration ability to adjust to the changing needs of our children. The lack of tolerance to accept or even hear or consider that change is needed & it starts with them.
The administration is managing themselves & lacks understanding about the actual developmental needs of our children & the personal challenges they will face, in order to function as an active productive, healthy member of society.
This school is currently failing in preparing our kids, they are not teaching any necessary life skills needed in order to manage lifes challenges or coping skills as young adults tansitioning to managing full responsibility for themselves and their futures. I am fully disappointed with the principals inability to cope with change himself. He is one of the 6 county principals who is rhe highest paid salary, with the least amount of education. This kind of zero tolerance to moving forward in our knowledge, and ways, is unacceptable to me. Taking an active learning approach to what proven research has shown us, is what has to happen, to allow our children the opportunitys to have choices, and the knowledge necessary, to make informed functional responsible decisions to improve their lives and situations. It starts with the getting a new school climate with educated inspired hopeful positive individuals dedicated to making a difference. No more leaving any student behind, judging them & beating down their self esteem through your old school outdated policy.

Overall, I always had trouble fitting in at Fort. I stood as an outcast, as many students were familiar with the area because their families had lived in Augusta County for ages. I stood out since my family came from another country, and I was never really involved in sports. The school is great if you’re a white Christian athlete, and the administration will always be on your side if you are. However, if you aren’t one of the above, you might have more trouble fitting in in such a close minded school.

Fort Defiance High School is a great school. The teachers, administrators, and staff really care about the students and their potential to succeed not only while at high school but also beyond, into adulthood.

If you are simply trying to earn a high school diploma and nothing more, this is an okay school. Unfortunately, there are not many alternative options in the area, if you were born here, your parents probably went here or are still here as teachers. That isn't to say that the teachers aren't kind and understanding, they work with what they have and do their best to assist students in accomplishing their dreams to the best of their abilities. However, the community is small and sheltered, the student body is, at best, 80-90% white, rural farm kids. The arts programs are driven entirely by the efforts of one or two dedicated teachers, with no resources to support them. The computer science program is nonexistant. The honors and AP programs are average at best and the only Governor's School, which is 30 minutes away in Fishersville, is little more than a vocational school that only looks halfway decent on an application with the assumption that the college admissions office completely neglects to look into the school's program or accreditations. The only decent program is Agricultural Sciences, boosted by the large majority of students poised to inherit farming properties. Teenage pregnancy and driver mortality rates are depressingly high. If you are looking to move here, unless you plan on going into farming, you should reconsider something closer to Rockingham or Albemarle County. Property is cheap, but your child's future is not.
