My son has been bullied. My son had his 504 plan dismissed because they "don't know how to implement it" but it was written and followed by the elementary school next door. My son was told by the VP that he could be slapped if he accidentally touched someone. My son came home one day telling me about one of the teachers cussing & hanging out with the kids instead of teaching. My son received around 3-4 referrals with ISS/OSS for basically existing and being a child. They also think failing a child multiple times in one subject apparently builds their self esteem. My son doesn't want to go to school anymore because he feels like he's stupid. The school doesn't provide any help even when begging them for help. It's also nearly impossible getting someone in admin to show for a meeting that they scheduled! All blame has been pushed off to us as his parents.

It was horrible my first day there a teacher thought I was watching pornography on my Chromebook and didn't bother to check my history she instantly grabbed me by my wrist and took me to administration.they checked my history and found nothing I basically gotten embarrassed for nothing.the staff are very lazy when it came to checking the cameras for my innocence of something I didn't do when a person reported me .leading to me getting suspended and expelled .it was like they didn't care.ive dealt with racism and depression in my 7th grade year throughout my 8th grade year. In 8th grade I was in math class and I had my spiritual journal in my bag and a group of Christian kids who knew I have a different religion and beliefs waited until I went to the bathroom to go in my bag and shred my book to the point it was nothing.they told everyone I was a satanic person or (satan worshiper ) I went to administration and they did not a damn thing about it. I got tired of trying to make a difference because this school was fast to call the cops on me .If you want your child to be successful throughout teenage life and grown healthy into adulthood this Is NOT The school for them. Good luck everyone.

Very little actual teaching of core subjects. Students sit behind their chromebooks and are taught their assignments using videos. There is a lot of bullying and nonstop fights in hallways. The hallways are severely overcrowded and violent, security is a constant presence as well police called to the school. Extremely stressful and harmful to social/emotional health. My chd had developed anxiety. Children are disruptive in classrooms with little intervention leaving the other students to struggle with the room environment, this is reported across the board. If your child has an IEP or 504 be on this school like glue checking often that it is followed because they fail to get all teachers on board with respecting these legal documents. Not only has our family had consistent problems with this issue but parents in support meetings are also attesting to this as becoming a regularity. Legitimate concerns are often ignored and it will take repetitive attempts to gain someone's attention. The staff does not communicate well with a parent or amongst themselves so be prepared to communicate with individual teachers by initiating email exchanges. Counselors and Assistant principles are useless in enforcing rules or talking with teachers who violate laws around IEPs and 504 Plans. They say they will and put on a good face in front of others but fail to follow through when no one is looking. This goes for case managers as well 100% useless and non-communicative. I have spoken with many, many parents concerning this schools strength and support for children and the stories aren't good. As a parent who has had one child go through this school and one entering 8th grade 2022-2023, i can attest to the negative perspectives of this school. If you can avoid it, place your child elsewhere.

My son attended this school for 7th grade 2019 before attending Renaissance for his 8th grade year. The fighting is a huge issue. Its treated as a game; organized, recorded and passed around. And OSS as their punishment is a joke. Or sending them to Renaissance academy where they can hang out with more kids behaving the same way and learn worse behaviors! I honestly dont have the answer but please for the love of God someone more intelligent come up with something!

I personally do not recommend this school I am a student here I know yes there is covid and I am not in school full time at this time but the one year I was well it was a terrible year there are like 5+ fights per grade per day. I have seen a student get arrested here. There are like 6-7 classes per student each class assigns at least 2 assignments per student each assignment can take from 45 - 70 minutes per this is why a lot of students that attend here get stressed and over whelmed the teachers don't realize that the student has more than just there class. Some of the teachers would be nice and would give you like 1 day a week to catch up but not all of them if you did not turn in your assignment by the due date which was usually the next time you see that teacher you automatically get a failing grade on that assignment. Parents wonder why there students are failing and why the teachers are telling them we only get quick and easy review homework well a lot of the teachers here will lie about that and the parents don't know. I have told my mother about this issue and she has realized a bit of it after I showed her how much they were giving me. To this day with covid I am still getting really large projects that I should not be getting when we are in the middle of a pandemic and we are trying our best to multi task. So parents please don't put your students here I suggest Princess Anne Middle they are better and if your child comes here beware of them coming home with stacks of homework the first 3 days of the school year or worse a scratched up face a broken bone and 2 black eyes. This school only tells you what they want you to know not what actually happened. So listen to what is coming from a student not from a parent because the parents did not go here and even if they ever did a lot has changed since then.

I attend this school and I don't think it's safe due to all the fights and problems with bullying. I myself have experienced WAY to much bullying within the 2 years I've been there. One of my classmates was even arrested. I like the teachers however it's not a very friendly environment. You have the social groups and no one leaves them. If your different your bullied. I've seen my friends get bullied by the popular kids because they classified them as nerds. I honestly hate landstown and can't wait to leave and go to highschool

Great school with a very nice learning environment. My son really excelled here and the program set him up to be prepared for high school and college.

Landstown Middle School is a great school! My children have been attending this school for the last three years and we have had no problems at all. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us. My children came from Christopher Farms elementary. Many of their friends went to another middle school close by in which they were zoned for and they have complained of bullying and fights at that school which is supposedly rated as an awesome school. I suppose there will be bullying at every school, it has been around forever and always will be but my kids have never complained about it here, I'm sorry that other parents/kids have experienced it but you can have your kids in an expensive private school and the bullying will be there too. Teachers at Landstown are very open and caring about our children. No complaints here whatsoever!

Landstown has been the worst experience for me as a student. I was bulled to the point of thinking that I could not go on any longer. I lost hope in every thing because of the students here. The students are full of them selves and will joke you until you loose hope in everything. The guidance counclers are very nice and help a lot but if you have the choice of sending your kid here, don't. Trust me as an 8th grader going into 9th. I hope high school is better.

Son was bullied. When brought to the attention of assistant principal nothing was down. When my son finally got fed up and fought the kid they both got suspended and then the piece of trash bragged about it on Facebook and that his mom told him to talk about it offline. When I brought up that bulling was against school policies and the kid that was initiating the bulling should be expelled I was told I misinterpreted the guidelines. Not happy.

Landstown Middle is a great school! My daughter just started 6th grade and is in the Spanish immersion program here, that she started at Christopher Farms Elementary. She is zoned for another school but we decided we would give it a try. The teachers are awesome! I was very pleased at open house after meeting all her teachers. They really stay on the ball here. She is enrolled in all advanced classes and doing great so far. Admin here is very friendly. I was nervous about her enrolling in all advanced classes because of the rigors of these classes, but she loves all of them.

There are good and bad with this school. My son had a really bad math teacher. When it was brought up to the VP, there was a lot of blame put on my son. Not to mention the fact that all but 2 kids in his class failed the mid term. He has taken this class over this year and there are 5 kids in his class that had the same teacher last year. Wish it was more about the students then the protection of teachers. I have also had emails not returned by teachers. There are good teachers as well. Just be ready to fight a battle when you have a complaint. You can not get any messages to your children unless you are in person with your ID. So you have to text your child, then they get in trouble for that. On the flip side, great technology, sports and class choices. This wouldn't be my choice of middle school for my children. Have not been happy with the overall experience.

My son started the 6th grade here in September and I have to say we are very pleased with this school overall. I have heard negative comments about this school prior to my son starting and I have to say, I was very nervous. I have had contact with many of his teachers already and have absolutely no complaints.. My son came from Christopher Farms Elementary which is a relatively a close-knit school and Landstwon is much more populated but he doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. He is taking advanced classes even though his teachers at CFES didn't recommned it (they said classes would be too rigorous) and is getting mostyly A's and a few B's. Wow!! Parents, go with your gut instinct when you enroll your child in classes for 6th grade. The staff is extremely friendly at front security desk....never any problems, I have grown up here in Va Beach and attended the "Best" schools and there was bullying and fights in those schools as well. It is at EVERY school. My son said he doesn't see any of this and they are seperated from the 7th and 8th graders. Not saying there isn't in this school, but we have been fortunate to not encounter it. Awesome school and excellent faculty!

Love this school! Some of the other posts are bothersome. Bullying and discipline are issues in ALL schools. Most of the problems do not start in the school, but the school has to deal with it. Our family, with 4 children, has had nothing but great experiences at LMS. They were not perfect kids and had their share of parent/teacher conferences. Get in there. Talk to the teachers. Go to PTA events. Go to sports events. Go to Open House. I am always thanked for my involvement with my children's education by the teachers and principal. They do care. They have a great spirit for their school and students. There are very few schools in VB that offer the clubs, activities, and support that LMS does. Compare notes with parents from other schools, you'll see. Keep up the great work Landstown!
