This school could be better if they chose to hire good genuine people who actually want to help children. This place needs new face with some positive youthful energy to keep these kids going. I know this is a low-income family school but there are many ways to go about guiding these children and improving their lifestyle. The people here are getting too out of date as if they can't keep up with today's society.

Students with special needs not welcome. Treated differently, punished more harshly, not supported appropriately.

So far we have had two children attend Holland Elementary. Dr. Richardson is amazing, I have not seen another principal who cares as much as he does. The changes he has made at Holland in just the last couple years are astounding. From pre-k through 3rd grade every teacher our children have had were amazing. I can not say enough good things about their teaching staff. Also dont let Holland being a Title 1 school, scare you away. There are many benefits they receive with that and from what I have seen and researched they utilize all of them. Lots of family nights (reading nights, math night, stem night a ton of family activities)
My complaints would be the ladies in the front office, they are not the most warm and inviting. Quite frankly they could give two craps about you. Also the practically non existent PTA or parent involvement. Parental involvement however does not fall on Holland, they have many opportunities throughout the year for families to be involved with the school unfortunately parents dont take these opportunities.
From an educational stand point its a wonderful place for children to attend.

They need friendly and outgoing front office staff. One of the ladies in the office is so unwelcoming and rude. The security desk also needs help because they dont really greet you, plus I thought theyre supposed to be checking your Id, which they never have for me. Safety is a big concern for our country. Besides those things, Holland is a great school.

Ive seen how well they work with disabled students.

My kindergartener usually has 1-2 simple assignments m-th plus reading for 15 minutes a day (something I think that they should already be doing). At first I thought it was crazy that he has homework at 5 years old, but I think it just helps to reinforce what hes learning in class.

The main office staff are so rude and unprofessional they don't say anything as soon you walk in, I don't even know how they have that job they are so awful

There is a zero tolerance policy for bullying but the teachers and staff could stand to delve more into certain situations when they are suspicious that something might be going on.

We love this school! I was scared at first when I saw the bad reviews on sites like these, but the school and the staff are both amazing. Both of my children go there now and they both love it! Dr. Richardson has made some great changes and you can tell he really cares about each and every student. One of my children is in a gifted cluster class and he is learning so much. His teacher even sends home different homework for him that challenges him individually and he is so much happier now than he was at his old school. Wouldn't change a thing...

For the most part I agree with this. No school is going to have 100% perfect teachers.

There are different levels of homework (at least in my son's class) so that children on different levels can each have homework to do that is suited specifically for them. I think that is awesome.
