The administration had a few issues in the time I was here, but generally handled everything well. Students are certainly given a strong voice in decision-making.

Going to Maggie Walker is a huge commitment - you do miss out on some social aspects of a typical high school. However, I have no regrets because of how much I learned here. I now attend Georgetown and breeze through my classes thanks to the intense college prep environment of MLWGS. Highly recommend this school to anyone willing to put in extra work to succeed.

This school is very challenging, but I feel as though I am prepared for college, and I've grown as both a student, and an individual.

Teachers give tons of busy work. Not sure that they all review what my kid writes.

Average school because its placement is, well... average. We just got a placement report and it looks similar to Henrico schools, nothing to brag about. If your kid is not a nerd and likes to have a healthy social life, this school isn't for her. Had we had any insights about this earlier, we wouldn't have allowed ours to sink four years of her life here.

It's great! So well rounded. My child feels very welcomed. The teachers are very well trained.

My son graduated from this high school and went onto get his Double Major from UVA in Bio-mechanical engineering and Neuroscience (in 4 years) and subsequently get his Ph.D. from Washington University. All his classmates are equally successful. This school also encouraged him to take part in performing arts - he shined in it (he sang with a group called Chorduroys). Only thing is missing - a rah-rah sports team. Then again MIT, Harvard, CalTech do not have rah-rah sports team either. This is the only school that I know of, where there are teachers who are willing to pay in - to be able to teach. This is the only school that I know where the students await the end of summer so that they can go back to their Latin class - where history comes alive. I would not even think about sending children to another school.......

Uncaring teachers, reminds me of public schools way back when - understandable when they have too many students, but, in Maggie's case, the dissociation is difficult to explain. The only motivating aspects of the school are the other students. If you want your children to experience a community of learning, rather than a robotic one-way ritual, send them to your county schools, preferably to one of the centers. Students at Maggie also miss out on a formative social life: they live all over the place, and have no time to drive a long distance to get together. Pass. (I wish we did.)

The best thing about Maggie Walker is the kids: they're interesting and interested. It's a group of academically-driven high school students. Most of the teachers are excellent. I didn't give five stars because of the lack of a teacher review process at MLWGS. A few of the teachers are horrible (examples: one of the math teachers, one of the APUSH teachers) and it seems they have jobs for life. Thankfully, most teachers are excellent.

I am a parent looking for a great school for my daughter and I want to see 2011 and 2012 ratings from students and parents as well as teachers. Where are the recent reviews? I want to hear what the students, parents and teachers honestly feel about the school!
