I would not recommend this school to anyone! Your children deserve better. Please homeschool your kids, have them go to the free online public school, or move to a different area. It's disappointing because Chesapeake is a great place to live, but this school needs to do better. They are also NOT military friendly what so ever. They claim that they are but they really don't understand the struggles of a military child. The school treats these children as if they are prisoners in their own school. They were not helpful in our transition. My daughter never had behavioral issues until she went to this school. We are currently at a different public school (Thank God) and she hasn't had any behavioral problems and everything is so smooth! Either Crestwood is insanely strict, or the staff/teacher were bullying my child (or both). My daughter let me know her teacher grabbed her by the arm really hard and forced her to the office. I almost had to take her out of the school and homeschool her. The only reason I didn't is because the counselor was such a big help. She really was the only person in that school who seemed to care about what was going on. The Vice Principal is terrible, she treats the children as if they are high school teens. If you have to keep your kid in this school, then please advocate for them. Half of their work wasn't even finished in the classroom, because of other kids interrupting and it being too loud. A lot of the school work had to be done at home in addition to the homework. There were not any opportunities to volunteer or interact with other parents either. It honestly seems like this school is hiding something. Every day that I dropped my daughter off at school, the staff looked so depressed to be there. No smiles, no positivity. Then they wonder why some of the children are having issues. They need to understand that the environment and leadership of the staff plays a big part in the children's attitude. The superintendent needs to get more involved in improving this school. I hope it gets the funding it needs and I truly hope that they do better for future students.

This is the school where you say goodbye to your child's childhood. 3rd grade is so focused on "teaching responsibility and accountability" that 8 year old children cease to matter. The playground is dismal. Not that the children get to use it much as losing recess and silent lunch or working during lunch are the preferred methods of correction and punishment. My third grader has more homework than my 5th grade and my highschooler. If your child is in the special education program be ready for a battle. Where as the elementary schools in the district care and put forth so much effort and resources. The intermediate school teachers do not even read the children's IEP before the first day of school, including their special education teacher. The "help" they receive isn't helpful to the student at all and is only focused on "meeting the 80% they have to to achieve the goal". If your student has a yearly meeting after Christmas. Request a team meeting the first week of school with a 3rd grader to go over the iep and make some changes to homework expectations if it is not in the IEP already. Teachers do not seem to actually care about students and there are definitely teachers there without a teaching degree im sure due to all the teachers who "retired". As we know there is no quality control with teachers and I get it as a principal I would back my team too but honestly we need a better education system. If I could pull my student out I would in a heart beat.

They have many character building events. Many times throughout the year they are discussing how to be a good citizen as well as a good student.

The vp and principal are fantastic. They handle the issues that come up. I love that they show love and caring for the children.

On the whole the teachers seem to care and are organized.

We have had two children go through this school and have loved it both times. The staff here is amazing and will make sure your child is cared for both physically, emotionally, and academically. There are a few teachers that you may need to stay on top of in regards to organization. As a whole though, fantastic school!

My son's teacher this year was all over the place. I have felt all year that I have had to teach him when he gets home because he really isn't learning much in class. So sad. She also will not provide extra help and only posts grades maybe 3 times a reporting period and that is unacceptable to me. How can you know what your child needs help with if you don't know what grades they are getting.

I'm sure there are some Teachers in that school that care, but most of the ones my son has had do not or should I say they don't appear to care. They are just pushing the curriculum and preparing for SOL's but no instruction for understanding.

They are short of Teachers that will go above and beyond for your child. My experience has not been a good one overall. If I could afford private school my child would be gone already.

Although my child had a very caring teacher who fostered a sense of unity with his/her peers last school year, the teacher and children this school year more than made up for the positive experience of last year! The teacher was immature, condescending, and just plain rude! She talked disparagingly about my child to me and condoned the bad behaviors of the children in her class! The children were bullies and were unwarrantedly negative towards my child marginalizing him no doubt feeding off the tone the teacher set for her class this school year! Topics were discussed in class that shouldn't have been that further caused division between classmates! The principal in turn condoned the teacher's bad behavior by policing me during what was supposed to be a parent teacher meeting! You as a parent will have no say in anything at this school and you will have no opportunities to be involved unless you are lucky enough to get the one or two teachers who are an anomaly at this school! Teacher and administrator alike were defensive and offensive when things were brought up to them that suggested they did not handle anything in a right manner for your family! Many warned me about this school but until I saw the problems first hand I didn't believe them! Friends are moving out in droves and I will indeed be right on their heals! There are many better options in near proximity to this school!

was disgusted by the way the teacher was talking about not only my child and her progress but other classmates and their progress. She has no right to divulge that kind of information to me, and that lack of privacy truly bothered me.

This school has been terrible. My child has been hurt by other students. She has had her hair cut, arm pinched leaving a bruise, and even choked by another student. She was an honor roll student until transferring to this school. The teacher has taught so poorly that my child failed many of the benchmarks this year. Last year at her other school she was in the exceptional category. The principal cut me off while I trying to talk with her about issues going on in the class room. The teacher raises her voice so often that my child is scared. The teacher also labeled special education children in her classroom as the bad children while we had a conference. If I could afford private school right now I would pull my child out of the school right now. I am seriously considering homeschooling. I no not recommend this school

Crestwood as a whole has been ok. Not great. The environment is very cold and unfriendly if you are not a minority. The principal is difficult to talk to if you are saying something that she doesnt like, specifically addressing an issue in her school. Going to school programs are not only a waste of time but dangerous as there is no concern for safety or courtesy with seating. If people dont want to scoot over to allow others to sit no one will as them to and them you end up standing in the back of the auditorium if you are lucky and not literally pushed out the doors. Teachers are generally very cold and there is no real connection with the children. I requested a conference with both my boys teachers 6 times before getting any response at all. If I could afford a private school or to move my children to another school I would in a heartbeat. Right now just counting down the time my boys are forced to attend this horrible school.

I had a great time at Crestwood Intermediate. But they didn't take care of problems. I could say truly even though we had fun I wouldn't enroll my child there

My son went to this school for 2 years. His 5th grade teacher for math/science was amazing. Unfortunately the principal was not helpful and I felt he was discriminated against as he is not a minority. (Other parents I spoke with felt similarly ). Other teachers had no discipline and one teacher even participated in bullying my child. I would not reccommend this school.

Both my children attended 3-5 grades at CWI. They both did very well and we were happy with the education they received.
