No homework for the children, but they do send home homework for the parents to help keep the lessons consistent at home too.

My daughter started at Boxwood in mid-February 2016 and it has been amazing to watch her growth in a few short months. It is refreshing that they reinforce our core values of leadership, independent thinking, helpfulness, teamwork and pride that we try to instill at home. She has also learned to help around the house and yard with confidence. We were also impressed when she came home with a prayer to bless our meals. She LOVES the staff at Boxwood! To be fair, I was nervous about the reviews I had read prior to my visit, however I can confirm that the 94+ year old retired directoress is very hands-off since retiring in the fall of 2015. She does greet the children if the pass in the hall, but does not interact with the children or parents further. I did approach her and had a long (and pleasant) conversation with her and she was lovely to me and I can see that she cares about the level of education and behaviors she wants to see instilled in the children who attend the school as it is a reflection of her life's work and she is proud of the results she and her family have yielded over the years. That said, you will likely interact most with the new Directress, Ms. Paula, who has been there for decades and is wonderful, loves the children and wants the best for them too.

My children love boxwood school and have learned so much since starting there this past summer. The children are taught using the montessori method, which is ideal for most children and encourages independence. The owner/headmistress is 94-ish and has high expectations for her students. Her methods are firm but fair and she pushes children to meet their own potential. The other teachers are the school are wonderful and I love that the ratio of students to teachers is quiet low.

Prior to my visit I had been considering Boxwood's Summer camp for my daughter. First impressions were that the campus and school house were quite beautiful. What ruined this for me was the 94 year old Headmistress/teacher, who was rude and belligerent to both myself and her students. Within minutes of walking into the classroom I was ridiculed while trying to ask questions, and witnessed the Headmistress scolding the children repeatedly for not following her instructions correctly. This may have been a great school at one time, but that day has surly passed. I saw no joy, fun, or love of learning, but rather what felt more like a poorly run daycare center... such a shame.

I attended Boxwood from age 4 to age 6, and am now studying nursing in one of the nation's most competitive and highly regarded programs. I graduated high school in the top 10% of my class and was incredibly involved in my school and community. I keep in touch with all of my friends who attended Boxwood in my year, and we all exhibit the same drive and determination in all areas of our life. We each attribute our success to Boxwood and the wonderful family who operates the school. The lessons your child will learn at Boxwood (perseverance, respect for authority, strong work ethic, taking initiative, among many, many more) will remain with them for the entirety of their life. I remain in contact with the President of the school and enthusiastically recommend Boxwood for your children.

After touring Boxwood as a prospective school for each of our sons, my sister called to ask additional questions in regards to her son, who has mild Asperger's. The Directress of the School responded by telling my sister that she talked so fast that she must be the reason that her son has special needs. This is absolutely disgusting. Aside from the fact that my sister actually doesn't speak fast at all, this shows a shocking lack of understanding of the causes, treatment, and approaches to special needs families. Needless to say, my son and my nephew will definitely NOT be attending this school, and I encourage others in the community to stay away as well.

My son is transfering to Boxwood after a year in another local nursery school. We have been so happy to find a school that allows children to learn from the world around them--there is a strong emphasis on constructive outdoor play. The first day I visited to observe a class I was astonished by how well the children worked and played together--helping each other when they got stuck but largely working through and really mastering challenges on their own. The teachers are first-rate and do a wonderful job of guiding without over-directing. Even on my son's first day, the only time he got upset was at the end of the day--he didn't want to leave! Of all the schools we've seen in town, this one also has the most devoted family involvement and 'alumni' loyalty.
