Minorities beware, Brownsville has serious racial problems. During this past year there have been multiple incidents of racial name calling and altercations on school property. Children have been caught playing with nazi paraphernalia at school. Even when caught in the act, there are no significant consequences. This creates a permissive environment where racial incidents are not only tolerated, but seem to be getting worse. In addition, parents have complained about differential treatment towards minority kids from teachers and staff, most of whom do not have any sort of diversity training. The combined effect is a hostile environment where children of different backgrounds have to spend much of their attention avoiding racial insults and other types of disrespect. Needless to say, learning under this environment is extremely challenging for anyone, especially young children. This explains, at least in part, the terrible diversity and equity data you see coming out of this school. Even though all the signs are clearly there, there is no noticeable action plan from the administration, staff, PTA, etc with regards to prevalent racism at this school. In summary, if you are looking for a place where wearing confederate flags at 5th grade graduation (as happened this past year) is socially acceptable, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a kind and inclusive environment where children of different backgrounds are respected, you may want to look elsewhere.

Below average.
1. They need to establish standards of excellence in academics. This includes strongly encouraging teachers to pursue advanced degrees in their discipline.
2. Security Unacceptable. When it comes to keeping our students safe and secure, our administration is not willing to do what is required to keep our kids safe. They lack the will to visit other schools who have implemented appropriate measures which protect our kids, and are not willing to seek professional external consultation.

The homework which is sent home is remedial at best. I am shocked over seeing homework sheets with poor grammar, poor english and poor directions. The content is designed to socialize not instruct.

Our experience has been that teachers cater to those performing below average. As a result, we have had to fight for our high-performing student to be challenged so he doesn't regress. At home, we assign additional homework to challenge him. You have to be extremely proactive in this school system if you want your child to succeed.

1. In public forums, Senior Leadership has stated the following, "We are not here to prepare your students for college, we are here to prepare your students for life." Clearly, this is wrong-thinking. Preparing a student for life is a parents job. Leadership has forgotten their primary mission: Academic Education.
2. In these same public forums, they also stated, Colleges and universities do not consider AP classes and student rankings during the admissions process. Clearly, this is not true. With first-hand experience, these variables are absolutely taken into consideration for admissions.

The principal, teachers, and staff are professional, yet caring and interested in my children and our family. There is a strong community of parents who make their children's education their number one priority. My kids have made great friends and have loved each of the teachers they have had. I feel so grateful to be able to put my kids on the bus every day, knowing that they are going to a wonderful place!

I'm impressed with so many aspects of the school ... the PTA, our amazing teacher ... but it's the principal I'm super impressed with. She's always everywhere at the same time (friends joke that there are 10 copies of her floating around). She's loading kids on the buses, greeting parents, answering the phone ... one time I was having lunch with my son and she was serving food in the cafeteria (rubber gloves and all). Also the after school BEE program is amazing. My son took African Drumming once and Legos another time. Such a great mix of classes, all affordable. We paid for private school before and I would say this school is much, much better. Very impressive. Since we've only had a positive experience, I can't think of a way it can improve.

We moved to the Brownsville district specifically for this school, and Brownsville has not disappointed! The teachers are caring and provide a rigorous classroom experience for their students, and the student:teacher/assistant ratio is fantastic. We have also been very pleased with the administration who seem to provide excellent leadership. My four year old also receives speech therapy services at Brownsville, and the speech therapist is knowledgable and wonderful with children, and we've seen terrific speech progress with her help. The BEE program, innovation lounge, daily specials, quality/cleanliness of the building, and high parental involvement all contribute to the positive, exceeding-expectations experience we've had at Brownsville.

This is such a wonderful school filled with creative teachers and children who are eager to learn. It provides a nurturing environment and excellence with academics. The PTO is very successful and is able to prove many additional programs and supplies for the classrooms and after school activities.

We are very pleased with our experience at Brownsville. Our child loves going to school everyday and is learning so much. We're impressed with the teachers who truly care about their students. Good parent involvement which we are pleased to be a part of. We especially love the BEE program and innovation lounge...what great resources! This school deserves better than a score of 6 by your website. We really couldn't ask for a better experience for our child. Go Bees!

Brownsville is wonderful. It's a great community. The teachers are outstanding. I've worked in the classrooms with the teachers as a volunteer and have seen the work they do. It's very impressive. I'm glad my child is a student at Brownsville and has had such dedicated and kind teachers.

I have two children in the school. Both have had very good experiences thus far. The teachers that our children have had are caring and devoted to our children's best interest. The school seems to have a small school family atmosphere despite the real size of the school. Our children are excited to go to school and they really enjoy the aftercare program. Many of the support and administrative staff know our children by name and are an added source of encouragement to them. Great school!

I LOVE Brownsville! I have two kids there and have been so impressed with the teachers--very caring and responsive, really working with my kids to get the best out of them. I love the "family feel" of the school, even though it is big. This is an all around great school!

Our son has been at Brownsville for one year now (2nd grade) and so far we are very pleased with our experience. His teacher was wonderful and the support staff was great too. My son has dyslexia and the school did a great job of working with us to support his extra reading needs. It is a large school, but somehow doesn't feel like it. Very good communication from the administration (via notes home, email, etc.) Wonderful after school programs available. I haven't met any fellow parents yet who are unhappy with their experience as Brownsville. So far so good!!!

I have had two children attend Brownsville. They are 11 years apart, so I have seen this school go through many changes. My eldest child loved the school. She had one issue with one teacher and we had a conference with that teacher and the issue was resolved. My son has had wonderful teachers as well. He is not as easy to teach as my daughter. He is easily distracted and goes off into his own world. Both of the teachers he has had so far have put forth tremendous effort to help him succeed. We were so fearful he would get labeled ADHD, but he was not. We have had constant contact with his teachers. The new addition is excellent. It is beautiful and each class has their own patio with table and chairs.
