I used to go to Glasgow Middle School. Let me tell you to everyone who wants to come here: Do not go to Glasgow Middle School. Go to Longfellow Middle School and middle schools in Chantilly, they are much better. The schools in McLean, VA have a better special education program than this middle school. Longfellow Middle School and McLean High School have better special education program than Glasgow Middle School. This middle school has a terrible special education program. They dont know on how to help special education students with an IEP and different learning abilities. The counselors and case managers dont know on how to help and guide special education students through success in learning. They are not fully well trained. All of the case managers are horrible. One case manager went to look at my stuff without the permission of my other case manager which is disrespectful. They could have recommended me and my parents to go try Longfellow Middle School which the staff members are better at helping special education students than those at Title 1 schools. I have really bad three case managers here. They threatened the parents to put their special education kids into getting a tutor outside of the school in order for them to stay in team taught classes, general education classes, and honors classes for Math, Science, and English. Speech therapist, Occupational therapist, and Reading Specialist do not work with your special needs child who have struggles with reading comprehension and writing problem like pressing pen/pencil too hard. They will tell you to seek a Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist outside of school to a clinic and get a tutor if your child have problems with reading comprehension. They will threatened the parents to get a occupational therapist outside of school if your child has writing problems such as pressing the pen/pencil too hard and wants to stay in team taught classes, general education classes, and honors classes. For all those parents who have special needs kids, I do recommend to put your special needs kids in Longfellow Middle School and McLean High School and avoid Title 1 schools altogether including Glasgow Middle School. It was a very horrible experience. Remember: not all schools are the same. Good schools are in rich areas including McLean, VA and if you dont have money to buy a home there, I would recommend doing getting a rental home in Falls Church, VA borderline to McLean, VA and McLean, VA.

I recommend this school because the English teachers are awesome, you learn a lot about what the teachers teach and teacher are so good at supporting you this is the best middle school in Fairfax county.

Dont come here! kids are terrible vaping smoking in every bathroom kids always fighting lots of teachers just looking the other way teachers letting kids skip in there class or giving them passes that aren't true teachers just ignoring bad language kids in hallways vaping the food is terrible its all bad!

The school is terrible! There is so much bullying and people skip classes and do drugs all the time at school. Dont come here, dont send your child here. It starts way too early compared to the elementary schools that lead up to this. Some students go to there bus stop at 5:30!! Its crazy, the teachers hate the kids and the principal is good though, but he doesnt do anything about the students and teachers!!

My experience with this school terrible, no respect from any students no respect from teachers. The students use racial slurs and teachers do not care they are very hostile to anyone who looks different or acts different so special needs people are discriminated here. There is no dress code and students wear anything they want. Students chew and eat ships all day long and the place is always so dirty. Students skip class all the time to vape in the bathrooms. I do not believe this school is safe when i was in class a kid was banging on the door asking for because three 8 graders were going to beat him up just because of his size and you know what the teacher did? He did nothing and let the kid get hurt not so long ago a special needs kid got beat up because didn't like him. some kid also brought a weapon to school. You cant trust counselors either one of them went to jail and the other one was charged with battery. The only that still makes this school a school is that they a decent ap program and good musical programs. Overall, this school is sucks and should be shut down.

No respect at this schoolstudents have no respect for teachers, and teachers have no respect for each other. When I asked the teacher next door for help handling a situation, they brushed me off, saying to call the main office because they had no time for substitutes.

The regular teacher I was subbing for left a sticky note saying the students can do whatever they want because they're done with them. No useful information, no support. This place is a nightmare for substitutes. Avoid at all costs!

The teachers don't teach content well and the communication with the parents is really bad. My parents sent an absent form and I was marked as unexcused for the 3 days I was out so you are forced to go to a bad school even if you are sick. The kids treat each other like garbage, calling each other names, and cussing at others including teachers. After lunch gets out the students all run through the hallway and bang on the doors making the whole class stop and acknowledge how stupid and immature they are. And finally the perfume and cologne situation is out of hand. People are spraying the stuff in the locker rooms and in the classrooms. Overall, Glasgow is a bad school and if you have to go then pray for your sanity.

This school is a basic nightmare of parents, especially of kids with disabilities. I am autistic and I am forced to sit inside of the loud and chaotic cafeteria where fights often happen, taking adults a long time to break them up. I am also harassed by adults about things that are in fact on my IEP. Teachers are also very mean. Some teachers are good, but most are just horrible to the students. And then vulgar language is never rare to hear kids saying harsh vulgarities and racial slurs. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECCOMEND!

I have been very pleased with my childs past two years at Glasgow. It is the largest middle school in Fairfax county and I think they do a great job trying to find a fit for everyone. The AAP track is spectacular and the teachers really seem to want the kids to do well and succeed in these trying teen years. There are many interesting electives that a private school could never offer and the school is trying to build a strong after school program. We have been pleased and my child is doing well.

I never really hated school but I dread going to school now. I don't have a problem with the academics but most of the kids here make school horrible. All I hear are slurs and cursing and hateful things. I don't feel safe here. Can't wait to get out of this school. At least I have friends that make it somewhat tolerable.

the only things these teacher talk about is their life they waste half of the period talking about their selfs. the new rules are making me feel uncomfortable and the teachers in the hallways are rude and ones i heard a teacher cuss and before the a teacher cussed at me last year I'm really starting to hate this school i can't wait to go to high school I'm never ever gonna miss this year because the new rules i hate it so much.

I do not feel represented at this school

The school has done nothing for asian american and pacific islander month. Instead they decided to announce that its jewish american heritage month and also do nothing else for the month, they only included black influences in schoolwork during black history month.

The school lunch can be moldy sometimes and there is not much variety in food options unlike when i was in elementary school where we were provided with actual healthy food. They just need to get more workers that love making food for children and the school should use money on actual healthy food options instead of stuffing us with plain calories. Ive gained more weight during this school year while barely growing an inch.

From crowds to bullies. Glasgow has never made me feel enthusiastic about being at school. As a current student, I face racist peers that instigate fights with others. Each time I hear a racist comment, I think about what the teachers are doing. I learned to adjust to the fowl language and so did the teachers, that should not happen. Youll find that some teachers are quite nice and humerons by the negativity outweighs the positives. For the safety of your child, send them to a safer school

I am a former student of GMS (2018-2020), In my opinion my 3 years at the school where hell. Teachers dont teach certain subjects correctly For Example, Math. They dont teach the curriculum good and They barley ever explain the equations when you ask them to repeat a question they would get mad and ask if you where not paying attention even if you where. Administrators are so aggressive for no reason. Counselors dont care about there students getting bullied. All the counselors do when your getting bullied is to write a report and they will talk to them and they never did. Parents, if you think about sending your children to this school please reconsider your decision. Glasgow doesnt care about there well-being of there students.

This is our 3rd year in Glasgow and my daughter loves it! what great schools does not show is that Glasgow is home to Advanced Academic program, which provides amazing opportunities for our kids. The teachers are great and always eager to help. Amazing development opportunities are offered as after-school programs. Which other middle school provides an opportunity to kids to build and fly a drone? Or study advanced theater? Principle DeRose is a rock star who is responsive, active and knows every kids by name. Could not be happier and feel lucky that my second daughter will be there next years as well.

The Great Schools ratings do not reflect the quality of the AAP program within Glasgow. It is a very strong continuation of the AAP feeder cohort from Belvedere ES and others with a program, in part, focused on preparing the AAP student for entrance to TJHSST. Both my current 8th and 6th grade children are thriving, achieving the highest grades in classes, gaining leadership experience, social skills, experience in attending state-wide STEM competitions, and participating in one of the strongest music programs in the area. Is a challenge to address the student body with ESL obstacles, home cultures not rigorously supportive of high academic achievement, personal discipline, social skills involving positive leadership, and other key attributes for success as defined by these scorecard metrics or the environmental metrics such as in the per capita highly competitive DC Metro area. I do think highly of Principal Derose, school officials, and especially the teachers my children have had the privilege to learn from. Go Panthers!

I rated good because there are many great teachers and a fairly safe and friendly community, but there are some students that aren't as safe as there are frequent fights in the hallways and students pulling the fire alarm. Other than that, Glasgow is a great middle school!

It's not always easy to teach at a Title 1 school; many of our students don't have easy access to education, after-school supports, or the basic necessities of life. Engaging these students while also meeting the needs of very advanced learners is a delicate balancing act.

Our family has been a part of Glasgow MS community since 2011. Each year, Glasgow improves as a school and a community, particularly in the last 3 years. Today, Glasgow embraces its rich diversity - academic, cultural, ethnic, and economic - to create a warm, respectful, creative environment for learning. Remarkably, it meets the needs not only of our neediest students but also of our most advanced learners via specialized programs such as AVID, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, and an Advanced Academics (gifted) Center. At the same time, Glasgow is a leader in attending to the social-emotional needs of tweens and young teens, embedding Positive Behavior Intervention Support and the Panther Principles of Kindness, Commitment, and Safety in all aspects of the curriculum. Strong PTA and parent partnerships make this a great place for children to learn and grow as they bridge to high school. Keep up the good work!

I am disgusted that this school is still in existence! This is a poor run down school with a terrible principal and terrible teachers! It seems as if they got these teachers off the streets. So many complaints have been handed down to the office about the teachers but NOTHING is done! I would never let my kid go here, EVER! They treat students so bad & staff members are so disrespectful! FCPS needs to do an investigation on this school IMMEDIATELY!

Over the years, Glasgow seems to go up and down in terms of its reputation, so we weren't sure what to expect when we got there. I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the teachers and the way the school is run. Our son has been challenged by the classes and he has homework almost every day. There is a lot of diversity there and the different economic and cultural backgrounds creates challenges (like bringing down overall test scores), but I think the school does what it can to try to help kids succeed. My son says the differences in the kids is not a big deal. If your child wants to learn and tries hard, there are a lot of opportunities at this school.
