I can not express how horrible for a kid to be in this school
Discrimination , Bullying, disrespect and very lady stuff
2023 special need student was beaten and teacher was jailed
My son with Autism was detained in a room for months because he cry they did not even bother to inform us
Principal useless teacher behaving like teens
Education level even below and no one take responsibility
We sold our home to move from that school
It was a nightmare for our kids and family
Please do not take your kid there or you have to follow daily before they destroy his ability of learning
I hold FCPS responsible for that behavior because they never act to correct things and make them right
We pay taxes to create a jail for children instead of a school

This is our first year at this school. I had a very friendly and loving kid before we moved at this school but now the language, interest, attitude… have changed. The teachers and principal doesn’t respond to my concerns. One teacher told my kid she is acting like a monkey for this they ignored my report. I am a very logical person. Sometimes I put myself on the teacher’s shoes but from the unacceptable behavioral change and academic decline I get from this school community I really regret my decision to send my kid to Glen forest. The teachers constantly told the kids how frustrated they are at teaching and their salary. I know it is a National problem but come on they are kids for God sack! Please do yourself and your kids a favor try to research about the school before you enroll them.

Blessing

My children had homework in kinder and first and then didn't in second. So when third grade hit it was harder to reestablish those routines again.

Posted: December 10, 2019

Both of my children speak of going to different classrooms to work on things like reading or math. And when I ask them why they are very able to communicate that is because in those other groups they are working with other students on the dame level as them. This tells me the teachers are all communicating with each other about what is best for each child.

Posted: December 10, 2019

My children say things mainly about how some peers lack in characteristics like integrity and gratitude and are able to give me examples. And when I ask where they heard those works they tell me from the Positivity Project at school.

Posted: December 10, 2019

When I attend school events there is always a presence of not only teachers but the administration team. They walk around and talk to all the families and seem truly happy to do so.

Posted: December 10, 2019

My children speak of having children in their classes with differing abilities and how they like to help them. I can tell they are learning from them too about patience and respect for all kinds of people.

I cannot say enough good things about this school. I am so surprised by the eating on here because it does not match my experience or that of the other parents I have spoken to. I highly recommend Glen Forest. If you move into this community consider yourself lucky.

I have had 2 sons go through Glen Forest, one is still there. I remember moving to the area and focusing on the ratings. I was HORRIFIED that the school in our pyramid was rated so low. And then my boys actually went there. I cannot praise the faculty and staff at this amazing school enough. They truly care! My kid is not just a number, he is not a box to check. I don't know if my involvement makes a difference (I am a class mom and part of the PTO) but the environment at this school is just what my son needs. I love that his teachers thus far have been amazing and open to my help, the assistance principals are spread across all 6 grades (so they can focus more on a certain subset of students) and that when I walk in to volunteer or just go meet him for lunch the office staff is warm and inviting. Mrs. Choate is a principal anyone would want to have leading the effort. She is the perfect balance of heart and a hard ass! And to be perfectly honest you can't baby these kids. You have to have someone soft enough to be understanding and stern enough to be effective. I could not have been more wrong when I saw that initial rating. While I agree with others on the PTO, I also have to say that you have to sign up and be active parents. They are always seeking volunteers. The opportunity to give to the school is definitely there. This school is a gem and I am a proud Glen Forest Elementary Parent!

I'm beyond happy with the experience my children have had at this school and their preparation for middle school.

Posted: September 7, 2018

Teachers provide homework but not so much that children are unable to finish it due to after-school scheduled activities.

Posted: September 7, 2018

Teachers are routinely engaged with their students and the children are happy in the classroom.

Posted: September 7, 2018

The school is very diverse culturally, ethnically, and in religions, but all the children are taught respect of others traditions and to be helpful and civic-minded.

Posted: September 7, 2018

The administration fosters the school as part of the community and supports the parent organization with assistance while also seeking teacher engagement after school.

Posted: September 7, 2018

Students with learning disabilities are mentored by others in their grade and treated as part of the overall school community.

Posted: September 7, 2018

The lesson of respecting others is constantly driven home and an effort is made by staff and the administration to engage with all the students personally.

I email the teachers and i do talk to them. They are so aware of the students levels and areas of development. They tirelessly support the students with everything possible.

Posted: March 10, 2017

They constantly follow up the student and contact their parents to talk about the homework

While initially intimidated by the incredibly diverse student and family population, we have been blown away by the quality of classroom instruction, specials, and resources. Turns out the diversity is just the icing on top of the cake. Also the PTA is making quick work of improvements. I agree this school is a gem in Fairfax County.

My children attended for only one school year and I have hated the school from day one. The front office staff is rude and unprofessional. The principal acts fake and the assistant principles look and act like Cruella Deville (101 Dalmations) The only reason we stayed is because my kids really liked their teachers. Both teachers admitted that they were unhappy there and both left at the end of the school year. I enrolled the kids this year, yet just pulled them out after 3 months. Do not send your kids here!

So far so good. No issues registering, staff was kind and helpful. We enjoyed the open house and my daughter was able to meet her knew teacher. Teacher emailed all the parents afterwards so ensure you had a way to contact her throughout the year. I'm concerned that they do not have a PTA (parents leading it moved away) considering how big the school is.

I am a minority and my son is a rising 1st grader this coming school year. He attended kindergarten at Glen Forest. My son and also my husband and I had a wonderful experience. My son kindergarten teachers was great ! We had no problems also the front office staff was always very polite and was willing to answer any questions we had. I am looking forward to another great school year.

Looking forward for my son to be attending 1st grade here. So far, we have nothing but good things to say about the teachers and staff. It seems like the PTA try their best to get parents involve. Hopefully, it will be a better result this coming school year.

Our K-teacher is not nice to the kids in her class. My daughter is complaining and is scared: her teahcer is yelling at kids and intimidates them. My child does not want to go there. We never had this problem before, though she attended 4 different day cares. Moreover, her teacher is in a way arrogant. She did not cooperate with parents and did not challenge our child enough through the academic year.

As a minority, neither me or my child have felt discrimination at this school. As a first-year parent at this school, I am impressed with the teaching skills of my child's 3rd grade teachers. They quickly recognized his strengths and took the initiative to give him advanced work. When I first went to the school to register my son, I had concerns about the location of the classes based on grade levels. It was the assistant principal who walked with me and explained the rationale behind the placement of the classes. This school is a gem in Fairfax County. The PTA could be more active, but they may just need more members. The parent involvement could be higher and that may be due to the diverse population. The school works very hard to keep the parents involved and educated about the education process. There are always meetings with parents. The prinicipal is involved in situations that affects the child's positive response to education.

students have behavior issues. It impacts the one that want to learn. Some students just don't listen they act like high schoolers. it would nicer if the parents will teach the childern how to behave

Horrible school. Very low quality education. Discrimination and bullying are active factors at the school. Teachers set really low expectations of students. Don't take your children there.
