Teachers too soft on students, some kids who go to special classes basically get to skip the entirety of the normal class. Teachers only focus on the bad kids more then the other kids which makes the bad kids more motivated to be bad, not to mention the excessive bullying of other students, Mr Flynn (The art teacher) is the only teacher who teaches right, and treats all his students equally. Also "recess" is WAAAYYYY too short to be even considered a "recess" they also expect all students to be able to keep up and be on the same page as the teachers. Would NOT recommend ESPECIALLY if your child is younger then 7.

This school is One of the worse school in the district of Fairfax county, the staff members including Principle, Elliot and principle assistant Glacer and teachers do not have manners how to even talk with respect and the school educational system is way far from Worse, if There was a “0” option instead of "1 star"I could give "0" I used to work there but resigned based on all the negative behavior I received from staff and I am deeply sorry for the all the Children who are enrolled in that school, please stop sending your kids into that school and if you moved please stop enrolling your kids into that school choose other elementary schools around the Alexandria area they are good. Please do not make a mistake for sending your kids in Woodlawn elementary school because your kids would never even learn anything, teachers are yelling on kids, breaking them before they Grow up. I do not have words to describe the way kids are getting treated in this school, Staff members on duty talk about how broken this school is, I wish I could go in the details about all the things I have seen there and observed while working but I am keeping it short, can't go in detail for everything right here, but just a humble request, if your kids are going in this school, take them out as soon as possible and send them into other elementary school and if you are new in this area please never ever think about for admission for your kids in this school.

The Principal at Woodlawn Elementary is very very rude and shows NO compassion towards the needs for kid with urgent situations.Also the New Principal have no public relations experience at all.

As a mom I've had a issue with bullying the entire last school year and nothing never got resolved until I made some next steps to get heard and be a advocate for my child.

Woodlawn would be much greater and successful School with a New;experience,caring,and compassion Principal and maybe there stars reviews scales will increase.

I don't about other teacher, but Ms. Rhodes assign homework daily to my daughter.

I would rate this school from 4 out of 5. My kid do enjoy this school very much.

Unfortunately this is not a school I would recommend. The assistant principal, Ellen Glaser, was rude and does not treat staff with respect and I found her to be snippy and rude and displaying favoritism. The principal also has issues with this as well.

Rude and unprofessional staff. Negative atmosphere set by administrators and support staff. Usually school secretaries are nice when you walk in. When they are grouchy and unpleasant you know there is something wrong. It's gonna take more than higher SOL's to fix whatever this horrible school is lacking.

Most of my kids teachers are hardworking, loving, and positive. It's a shame that this attitude isn't nurtured due to poor leadership. FAIL. We couldn't wait to move and get our kids out of that disaster of a school.

Woodlawn is trying to a make a change for the best and engaging parents using resources available to all of us. I feel the Staff and principals are trying hard to give opportunities for a sucessful school year. Remember our school is as good as the parents, teachers and students make it. We must all work together to make Woodlawn a safe learning environment for everyone.

A school becomes great when the administration, teachers, staff, students, and parents work hard individually and together to succeed. A few years ago this school went through a major admin/teacher transition and I believe that year my child "fell through the cracks". I was not happy with many aspects of the school that year, but the school has completely turned around. I couldn't be more pleased with the administration and teachers. Both of my children are thriving to the utmost level. Their teachers for the past couple of years have been absolutely wonderful, and when there is a disciplinary problem, or even a hint of one in the classroom, the admin and counselors jump in immediately. I'm sure there are isolated incidents, as there are in all schools, but I just haven't seen it. This school deserves a much higher rating. I agree that the lack of parent involvement is what is hurting this school. I work full time and cannot be physically at the school very often, but I am very supportive of my children at home, and that is what is needed here.

I am so sad to read negative comments about the staff members, specifically from other staff members. There *might* be 5 total employees (Out of over 100) of Woodlawn who are not completely dedicated to the school and the children. This includes admin. If you have ever had an actual conversation with the administrators, you would find their passion is evident. None of them are bullies in the least. I, too, was at the meeting that was spoken of and I didn't think for a second that it was handled poorly. The only reason I give the school a 4 not a 5 is for lack of parent involvement. It can be disheartening to have students who are failing and parents who don't seem to care.

It makes me sad to see some of the comments written by others, especially from fellow staff members. I do not consider myself a "friend" of our principal, nor do I have any background with her prior to Woodlawn. I have never felt intimidated by our administration to a point where I could not speak to them about a concern that I was having. I too was at the same staff meeting and I never felt that any of the concerns were being mocked at any point. Many of the issues addressed were between individual staff members in which administrators simply encouraged individuals to bring to them personally, due to the difficult nature of solving these issues on a large scale and would be more than willing to assist on an individual case by case basis.I feel that our administration this year has been the best we have had in a long time. They are not only more involved with the staff but also with the students. One of my favorite things about our school is how dedicated our administration is to the well being of our staff and students. I could not be more proud of our school and to say I am a teacher at Woodlawn.

I have to make a correction and clarification of my test scores statement. I wrote the schools percentage score went up but I meant the schools score have gone down but my kids' have gone up. I think it's not fair to look at just a schools test scores, without also looking at the demographics of the schools population. I've been to this school and spent time in my kids' classroom as well as others and found that while many parents are not as vested as they should be, the students in whatever classroom I am in seem to feel safe and accepted in the classroom. My kids have improved since attending this school and I haven't had any issues with the staff, nor have I come across a teacher I felt was not 100% vested, interested or aiming for student success. I think more than anything the test scores are a reflection not of the quality of the students or etching here, but more like a reflection of the parenting and investment in children's education the parents make.

Wow! Somebody had the courage to say it like it is! I didn't know that complaints would be anonymous. Here is my 5 cents...I teach there too, but too scared to say anything. All true. I will say though, we had a staff meeting last week and heard some problems that were sent in to read. The principal and vice principals read all the anonymous complaints and said we would discuss the issues (there were more than a few) The problem was the principal and vice principal read each complaint in a mocking manner and laughed about all of them in front of the whole staff. Then they never asked anyone to discuss but called all of the complaints ridiculous. The complaints mentioned that there is a bully mentality among some staff at the school (the principal is the biggest bully and everyone on staff is scared of her except the other bullies who are her friends). Another complaint mentioned that staff is not very nice and asked the principal for help, but she laughed about that..She runs the school poorly and is not a good leader. This school could use a big change by getting new administrators first then getting rid of their friends most of who are teachers from the principals old school.

This school has a poor program in terms of controlling the bullying program. I'd like to see a change because of the situations that have been taken place is Inexcusable.

If you are moving to the area and have to enroll your child and this school DON"T. Please look into Fort Belvoir Elementary or Lane Elementary. We have been here for only one school year and we are removing each of our children from this school. They are very messy! By far this is the worst experience that I have had with any school system (we are military). They do not want to see your children advance to the next level. I wish I could go into great details on this subject. However; I will say this, if you are a parent who only wants the best for your child then this is not the school. They will do anything to point the finger from them and onto your child. There is a huge lack of communication on the teachers part until it is time to call their boss.
