The lack of consistency with regard to the staff is detrimental to the students. Lack of consistency with regard to the substitute staff is not conducive to student learning either.

The school has been a positive experience in years past, however, it has declined significantly.

Noticed math homework being left at home, called the teacher to see if it was being turned in. She replied she did not know as it was turned into the homeroom teacher. This was week six of school and she had no idea if homework was being turned in. She said she would return my call but did not. Later after follow up it was brought to my attention that it is of little or no improtance if students turn in homework because homework did not receive a grade nor count for anything at all. Children are smart and if it does not even amount to a check or minus for the effort why bother making an effort. This does not seem like an affective measure for young children.

Although Petsworth has good teachers some do not stay long at the school. It is concerning that the attendance of the staff is of little importance, it is questionable at the very least. It is amazing that staff members are permitted to consistently miss work week after week and month after month. According to the school board policy absenteeism of the staff is at the sole discretion of the principle. It is clear that continuously having the teacher missing work is not conducive for children learning. To add further insult to the situation the principle did not arrange for the substitute teacher to be consistent causing additional difficulty for the children. Consistency for education and overall progress for children is paramount in general and when it is compounded by vital core education such as science and math it can be crippling. Perhaps the principle and the school board should review teacher absenteeism and substitute teachers and focus on improvement.

Character appears to be important as the staff in general role model strong characteristics for the students. It is very evident in the non academic staff and support staff.

My son has been with Petsworth since 2010 and did 2 years of their PreK class to help prep him for Kindergarten! This was a joke! The 1st year he did good, teacher was great then found out at the end of the year they let the teacher go!Had a new teacher who was supposed to be better then the last year!Another joke, she was fresh out of school had never taught a class let alone a special education class! They learned a lot the first couple months! Then the teacher was told to change her focus from teaching shapes colors numbers and so on to more focus on life skills!Like my 4 yr old needs life skills to get into kindergarten? At the end of the year that teacher was let go also! Now my son just started KG and he is not ready at all!The days are to long for these little ones to be gone 81/2 hours a day!He is having a hard time with his teacher who is not special education friendly by far!My 5 yr old has been written up many times and it seems like no one is there to help guide him!I have asked for help and was told by the teacher she did not know what to tell me!This school has gone way down hill the past few years!New staff new principal so many changes and I do not think for the good!

It's the staff-from the Principal, the teachers, all the way to the janitor. Everyone truly cares about the children. They go above what one would expect. It's absolutely the best school!!
