Im a freshman (class of 26), and it hasnt even been a week and I love this school. The teachers have helped me adjust to the new environment. The upperclassmen are not intimidating at all, and the staff are striving to make sure that everybody gets an equal opportunity. The sports teams are incredible and a good way to make friends as a freshman. If your child is considering applying to CFA or the IB program, definitely encourage them to do so.

I graduated in class of 05 and I love my school! We were a close knit family. There are a lot of great programs and opportunities like the IB programs, Center for the Arts, and Technical programs. I enjoyed being in the marching band as a flag girl. The one downside I can agree with is the college readiness. I was not prepare for college or standardize testing like the ACT and SOLs. Course work should better prepare the students for future success.

Many teacher are Nationally Board Certified and have advanced degrees in education and/or the course they teach. Most teachers are experienced and take the time and effort to take part in Professional Development to make learning more student centered, relevant, and effective.

The school focuses on the Henrico Learner Profile by emphasizing Quality Character. With the "Niceness Campaign", Zero-Tolerance stance on Bully, and Restorative Practices in Discipline, Henrico emphasizes the "person" and not just the "student".

The Exceptional Education department goes above and beyond to advocate for students with exceptionalities. They work closely with faculty to make sure that ALL students received the supports needed to be successful.

Overall, every school has issues, Henrico High School's biggest issue is a poor reputation that is undeserved. Every year Henrico makes huge strives in increasing the academic rigor and boosting the high school experience for students. Teachers go above and beyond everyday to develop relationships, create relevant student-centered experiences in the classroom, and challenge students for greatness. When it comes to Henrico believe almost none of what you HEARD and come check out what great things there are to SEE about the school.

The bullying is pretty good dealt with, but hoo boy are some of the kids here BAD. They really do not care, and the teachers at this point are jaded to the point where they don't really want to do anything. They're kind of lazy and some are really unorganized and lose student's papers ALL the time...the art program is great, I suppose. If you want a school with great academics, this isn't the one for you. We had a teacher who was gone for an hour and a half and there was no substitute. And their is ALWAYS some mishap. We have a lockdown at least once a week, and there is always an incident. The staff has a tendency to focus on the wrong things and make random, erratic reports when they could be focusing on the MANY issues this school has. This is why the snooty majority white schools look down on this school.

My son is a senior in the IB program. I can't even describe the experience he has had or the amazing growth he has experienced. When he started he was a kid and now he a remarkable, intelligent and confident young man. This is a holistic program that challenges you to grow in so many ways. We are pleased with the college offers that are coming in now and are even more pleased by the person he has become. The director of the program is a gem. It astonishes me that this program is available for free as part of public school. Your child will blossom here.

I am a parent of a spphomore at Henrico in the IB program and am very plased with the program. I have been extremely impressed with the faculty and staff at Henrico. Teachers in IB go out of their way to engage the students. The workload is intense and challenging, but students who graduate from the program are rewarded with offers from multiple colleges. However, there are a couple of downsides. First, if your goal is to get as much college credit while in high school, do NOT go IB. IB is a fantasitc education that prepares studens for college but colleges reward AP credit more than IB credit. Second, Henrico does not offer IB physcis or HL math. These higher level classes are really necessary if students want to go into a college for engineering. Finally, Henrico is a hike from teh west end. After school activities can be very challenging from a trasportation perspective. We live in the Deep Run school district and had one student graduate recently from Deep Run. Both Deep Run and Henrico are very good schools. We're pleased with our decision to send our child to Henrico and be part of the IB program.

I attended Henrico High School my freshman year as a student in the Center for the Arts. I moved during the summer and spent the remaining three years of high school in a Georgia school. I terribly missed Henrico High School! The Center for the Arts was amazing - you were able to work with artists and performers first hand and learn from them directly, there were spectacular field trips, and the teachers were perfect. I am now a sophomore in college and I wish I had been able to stay at HHS! The Center for the Arts students almost always get some sort of scholarship - I've known several who received full-ride scholarships to Virginia Commonwealth University. HHS has a lot of clubs and activities to offer, as well as diverse students and staff.
