I have both a high achieving child and a child with a learning disorder. This school served neither well. Between the ridiculous amounts of busywork, the lack of actual teaching and the insanely early start time, I am more than thrilled that my children no longer attend this school.

This school meets the needs of A students taking AP classes and violin. It does not effectively support the needs of kids who are average or having learning disorders.

This school does not effectively meet the needs of all of its community. It only meets the needs of the A students taking AP classes.

Our child is now a junior at Kamiak and while there are many positive things we can say about the school, on the whole, there is so much that needs and can be done to improve it. The positives are that it is generally a diverse student body, and there is absolutely a environment of respect. The performing arts programs are stellar, and there are many individual teachers who are outstanding, especially in the foreign language and mathematics departments. The biggest problem with the school is that there is a stunning lack of individual guidance given to students, and an overwhelming workload in many of the courses, particularly honors and AP classes, much of it busywork. Couple this with the early start time (7:20, and even earlier for 0 period classes) and you have a recipe for burnout and anxiety/depression. It is no wonder that so many students at Kamiak chose to do running start - who wouldn't prefer to start class no earlier than 8 and avoid mindless busywork like a requirement of 750 pages of outside reading per quarter for honors english, or forced note taking for honors chemistry? Furthermore, there is no mechanism for parents or students to give feedback to teachers or the administration, other than the district wide end of year survey. I've contacted the MSD regarding many of these issues and have received no response. Schools should answer to their constituents -the students who attend them and their families - and sadly this one does not. There is no perfect school, but this one could be so much better if only it would listen to its community.

The Best High School Ever! The time and care the staff has put into my sons education is phenomenal. When we first moved here, my son "hated his previous school" and had very poor grades. He now loves school and is a straight " A" student with Honors. The Kamiak staff took the initiative and has been proactive in his education. If he needed extra help, teachers would stay after school. Teaches responded to my emails the next day . They have always been quick to address any bullies too. I cant express enough gratitude and appreciation for the staff at Kamiak. Thank you!

Nice building, that's about it. Teachers are useless and classes are worthless. Better to home school than attend this wasteful institution of higher morons. Embarrassment to the area.

when i had gone to this school the principals didnt care bout bullying. they only cared if they saw it happen. most of the time they wouldnt even give the bullier the punishment that was writen in the handbook and would only give them the lesser amount. some teachers would just give random detentions for no reason at all. most of the students that i had gone to school with were the rich snobby i am better then you type and all the less fortinate students were made to feel bad. i had seen tons of students given new cars by their own parents or that they were given a nice car and the student didnt do anything to get it just it was given to them. it just goes to show how many students dont care bout any of the less fortinate or even try to help them out. if you werent popular or werent in a clique then you were a hated outcast.
