Many of the teachers struggled to clearly explain the material, and it often felt like students were expected to teach themselves. A large number of students ended up relying on private tutors just to keep up with the coursework, which raises concerns about the effectiveness of the instruction.

Grading also felt inconsistent and, at times, unfair. Some teachers seemed to use grades more as a form of pressure than as a reflection of understanding or learning. This created a stressful environment where students were focused more on avoiding penalties than actually learning the material.

The overall student culture also made the environment less welcoming. There is a noticeable amount of wealth on display, and some students behave in ways that feel competitive or dismissive toward others.

Because of these issues with teaching quality, grading practices, and the social atmosphere, I would not recommend this school to others.

It's a really hard school for newcomers to fit in because it's so cold and full of discrimination

This school has a tremendous number of cliques. I switched my son from private back to public schools after hearing that this was a good school. My experience has been much different.

The student/teacher ratio has gone up since my son has started and teachers spend most of their time trying to control the troublemakers. The very rich kids feel entitled and make it a bad environment.

Phones are prevalent and distracting all kids. Kids can't focus with all of the cliques and social pressure. Reducing the size should be the first step.

Homework is easy and is not time consuming because each teacher thoroughly explains the concept so well that what would have been an hour of assigned homework takes only twenty minutes.

Great school. This has been the best school I’ve ever been to. Basically, all you need to do is to avoid the sketchy/ bad kids and just focus on your schoolwork and academics. Try not to be involved in too much drama; surround yourself with people who share similar views and values! This school makes me look forward going to high school everyday. I absolutely love Bellevue High School.

Credit is given for completing an assignment, no need to get it correct or learn the material - just turn something in.

The administration has taken away the ability of the teachers to think or do anything other than just pass on the material they are told to pass on.

The only thing they teach a strong respect for is the all mighty dollar. If you have lots of them you can do anything you want.

I purchased my house to be in this school district and school. I have sold my house, I want nothing to do with this school for my other kids. I'm lucky to be able to have the resources to do so. Many others are just stuck.

Love the academic options, responsive staff and beautiful building.
New grade book is not user friendly but teachers update regularly.

Academically and athletically, the school speaks for itself. The school culture, however, leaves much to be desired. Though there's always an "in-group" in any school or setting, BHS's is particularly vicious. The same kids who ran the elementary schools in 4/5th grade, are the same kids who ran the middle schools, are the same kids who now run this high school. I've had 3 kids go through this school, 2 of whom were popular and still had problems with bullying, hazing, and the school looking the other way at their problems. The third developed severe anxiety and school aversion within 6 months of entering the school, now much happier being homeschooled. There is a true wolf-pack mentality not only among the students, but among the teachers as well. They seem to side with the "normal" kids and we had stunningly insightful suggestions about our GLBT teen such as, "Have you tried telling him not to flaunt it?" Make no mistake by the test scores and athletic program - a handful of students (and to a lesser extent their PTA moms) run this school. It's a school for the in-group and run by the in-group. My other children will not be going to BHS. We've had enough.

This is a school for students who will do well anywhere, anyway. If a student is struggling for any reason, the blinders go up and no one seems to notice or care. There is the rare teacher who will attempt to treat students as individuals, but that is the exception and not the norm. The administration is not supportive, creative or present. The counselors are completely out to lunch and not even capable. Remember that a very poor teacher can do damage to the way a student sees himself/herself as a learner and that is not easily undone.
