My daughter is a Coe student since 2020, and we have a great time, the amazing staff and teachers, there are a lot of enrichment courses with no cost for each student, like music, art, library time.
Coe's community is engaged in school improvements and the support necessary for Coe to continue providing access to the best content and learning.

Principal is terrifying and unable to hear anything is wrong with the school.
Kiddo is bored in class. The classwork is non-creative, linear and guided towards testing outcomes. Kid says with worksheets they were forced to follow along and "fill in what teacher tells you" or trace what the teacher writes with highlighter. You're never sure what your kid is doing themselves and learning vs. what they are simply being forced to copy.
The play area is an under-supervised expanse of blacktop that floods and ices over regularly.
Gates are not secure, kids or strangers can wander in and out freely.
Like all Washington schools, students are forced to sit through the pledge of allegiance to the US flag each morning, and are encouraged to salute and recite.

Have 2nd grader and kindergartener there and both they and we love it. 2nd grader has been in advanced math and literacy since kindergarten and we don't even bother testing for gifted programs since we wouldn't change schools anyway.

We could not be happier with out decision to send our child to Coe. We had been considering private school but decided to go with Coe after speaking to several of our neighbors as well as visiting the school. There is a great sense of community here. One of the best things about our "neighborhood" public school is seeing other students and parents around the area. Teacher/parent communication is also outstanding. We feel we have a great sense of what is going on in the classroom and what we as parents need to do to contribute.

We have been very happy so far with Coe. My child first attended here after moving to Seattle from out of state. He had quite a difficult time adjusting and the staff jumped through hoops to make him comfortable. The amount of compassion from the staff was amazing. The academics are solid. Lots of writing in 4th grade and several options for math if you have an advanced student. The ALO gifted program is a pull out for LA and Math. There seems to be a lot of support for learning differences as well. The PTA is extremely active and raises money for additional programs and teachers. All in all it was a good choice for us.

I cannot believe the review below. The only thing I can say to this parent is that there was a weak principal in place for just under a year (the district corrected the issue quickly) and they must have suffered from this situation directly. The parent community is very involved and is always begging for more parents to join the effort. A great building...a great staff with many, many enrichment opportunities not found in most public schools. The PTA raised money every year, then gives it to the principal to hire additional staff. My second child is mid-way through Coe and cannot think of a better place for him.

Coe is a terrific school in every regard. It has private school quality (with public school pricing!). We feel very fortunate to live in this neighborhood and be able to send our child to this school.
