My granddaughter is in kindergarten and is bullied by other students on a regular basis and also by a substitute teacher. I’ve noticed a big difference in her self esteem and she now does not want to go to school. The learning environment is negative, unstructured, and mixed messaging is confusing to her.

Inconsistent between teachers. Preschool teachers will give homework every single day and expect a verbal presentation every single Friday, while other teachers have no homework at all, other than a monthly project that is considered optional. Approached the principal about this. Seems to be a "whatever the teacher wants to do" scenario. Is it good or not to have homework? There is no consistent stance.

Teachers are more likely to be hands off and let the students get wherever they are going to get. Is this an effective teaching method?

Posted: January 29, 2020

There is definitely a lot of attention given to these subjects that are not visited in other schools I've seen.

Hands off. Is this leadership? It's some version of leadership and a good one if what you want is for your children to grow as they grow and no real version of propelling from the outside.

I know that their policy is to do this, but I have heard enough complaints from parents with these challenges.

Posted: January 29, 2020

They do send messages to parents and they do have policies they enforce and my children have all come home having learned lessons along these lines.

As a person who grew up going to a school that is highly rated, but also suffers from a tremendous amount of anxiety, I believe that they hands off method is a better way to grow and believe that I've seen that kids who are steeped in an environment that is more focused on learning how to learn, and less on pushing information down your throat, are more likely to do well later in life. I much rather the negatives involved with their lack of pushing than the negatives of forcing good test scores onto kids without taking into account how that affects the child. I don't want a world with forced academics. I want a world with children who enjoy learning and I think this school is effective at teaching that. There are trade offs for every school in this area, but I would re-choose this one if given the ability to choose again.

Homework is project based and meaningful. Students don’t waste time on busy work.

Teachers teach to the child and create lessons to each child’s needs.

Strong emphasis on character here. Kids are taught to value and respect themselves and others.

Principal is involved in every aspect of the school. Great leadership.

We love Geiger. Both of our children are thriving here.

This Principal is the worst that I have every seen. This man does very well at pretending to care, however only truly cares if it fits his agenda. You may be fooled at first by his smile and and calmness. However, the more you get to know him, he says smart remarks, talks down at people who disagree with him, and intentionally will try to antagonize people while doing it in a calm condescending manner.

Once again, if you do not fit into the perfect mold, then you are not accepted. I feel that children with special needs may not actually receive the help and guidance that is needed. I believe that many children with special needs may be ridiculed and treated unfairly.

I have never seen so much bullying in my entire life. Bullying is a regular activity at this school. I thought there was suppose to be zero tolerance for bullying, however it seems that bullying is accepted to the point that they might as well praise it. It breaks my heart to see the kind of treatment that is accepted in this school. I was so excited for my child to go to this school, however it is nothing of what I expected.

There are some wonderful teachers at this school, however my child has a teacher who is rude and confrontational.

There is a high number of bullying incidences daily. However, the school will usually turn a blind eye at the situations. Also, I feel that there are certain clicks among the adults that are bullies to other parents, but excuse themselves and act like they are superior if you do not fit into their mold. These particular adults are close with the Principal.

I wish I could start all over and never subject my child to this horrible school environment. I have never seen so much bullying in my entire life. Bullying is a regular activity at this school. These particular adults are close with the Principal. My child's self esteem is lowered everyday, because of the experiences at this school. Most days my child is scared to go to school, because of the constant stress of mistreatment in this environment.

(unless you are one of the kind of people that loves clicks and you act like you are better than everyone else, in that case then this is the school for you!)

The Montessori Method works so well for an active boy! The multi-age classroom and student directed "work cycle" has allowed our son to excel. He is challenged to stretch in areas that come easily and is supported in areas where he struggles. We are so thankful for this school and the Montessori program.

We absolutely LOVE this school! After two years, I really think my daughter is getting a fantastic education there. The Montessori method has allowed her to soar ahead at her pace and beautifully supports her individual academic needs. The teachers, staff, and parental community have a total hands-on approach. The principal, Paula Bond, is very involved and works tirelessly on continual improvements. We are so fortunate to have this Montessori school in our Tacoma public school system. I only wish and hope and pray that a Montessori option for middle school (and HS) will be available by the time my daughter needs it. Even without it, I think this style of learning, that promotes independent, motivated students, will have given her an edge that will translate over into a traditional classroom. Lastly, the newly constructed building is just the icing on this wonderful cake. What a gorgeous facility that seems to have been truly designed with Montessori learning in mind! I'd give this school a hundred stars, if I could.

Geiger is a fantastic option for famlies looking for more freedom and creativity in the classroom. We have had a terrific experience for over 3 grades and have experienced a superior teacher. I also really like the multi-age classroom. It has taught my son how to be a good leader and help his peer group out. The principle, Ms. Pond has a zero tolerance for bullying and it shows!!! I only hope my daughter will have a spot in two years.

Mrs. Bond and the entire staff here are excellent! The environment is so calm and quiet, peaceful. I wish I went to this school when I was a kid! My daughters love it here and so do I!

My daughter attends Geiger, and we are both really pleased the teachers and faculty. The Montessori method teaches great things! We are blessed to have this school and these wonderful teachers in our neighborhood! The family involvement is also excellent and provides this school with so much.
