My kid loves school, feels safe and is connected and supported by his teachers and all staff. The school has lots of fun activities and a strong PTO. Would 10/10 recommend. This school also has high expectations and takes safety seriously.

This is my second year bringing my child to this school. This school just took away my special moments as a mother to bring and walk my child to school and pick up, which I didn’t experience when I was a kid. They took away the time when we will walk together, talk and laugh together, kiss goodbye and watch my kid going inside the school making sure my kid’s safety. Then when school is over, I’ll wait outside the school, waiting for the moment where my kid will smile seeing me and walking towards me. This school took that away from me. Now, my kid will search for our car not for me when going home. All they care is a fast pace where the bond of a kid and parents are out of the picture. I understand that we are now in a fast pace world but I wouldn’t trade the memories I will spend with my kid “outside the car”. We all know that they grow up so fast. Now, this school looks like the time during pandemic. No parents and kids walking and talking together. Not a happy and joyful scene to remember for my kid when they grow up.

It is my 1st year here my son is in kindergarten and so far it has been very unwelcoming. However I have made a habit to get to know as many teachers and staff as possible. I have signed up to be a volunteer but have yet to hear from the school and I have attended all the meetings that I have been capable of thus far. At 1st negative experience with the school was I was unable to walk my son up on the very 1st day even to the front of the school. Was very displeased by this and I made a point to have a conversation with the principal but she was not available at the time so I was able to meet the vice principle for the 1st time. Distressing my concerns and the unsatisfactory I have about their drop off system she agreed to make an exception for me however I argued that it shouldn't just be for me because other parents filled the same as I do. In the vice principle had a wonderful conversation and now I believe that we have a respectable understanding of each other. Lover later on in that week I hadn't issued with my son's lunchbox he come home very distraught and upset and afraid that I would be mad at him. He sobbed and said my lunch boxes a mess I am so sorry mom. So of course I asked him and the best he could as a 5 year old described to me that he was not allowed to throw the lunch trash away and he was told to put it back in his Box. Well if I'm being quite honest I find this quite disgusting and I'm and un Sanitary. For the 1st time in my life I thought is my son lying to me I mean of course hes fibbed before but not to this extent. It's like OK well a we have a lazy lunch lady B there's not enough volunteers in the lunch room see my son truly is lying to me or D it's a school policy. So I went into the principal's office and I finally got to meet the principal for the 1st time. Isn't such rage over the nasty lunch Box that I had my husband talked to her for me. He has much better communication scales than I. She told my husband that it was disrespectful to approach her on the matter and to be so upset over is school's policy. I'll just hurt me so I stood up and walked over and sat down right in front of the principle. I said it's gross it's disgusting and under no circumstances to there be trash left in the lunch Box...Play ground is still not fixed it's a month into the school year. After meeting in the principle as vice principle will the font task and the teacher I still feel unwelcome at the school. I would love to sat more but I tan out of...

My daughter brought a friend home to sleep over (it was a school night, other family had an emergency) and the girl had headlice visibly crawling in her hair! I notified parents that night and school staff the following morning. They did pull the one girl from class and check her head, then called home to notify parents that treatment was recommended. They did not check classmates or other children she may have had contact with. They also are continuing to allow her in school even though the lice has not yet been removed. When I question staff about it, they are rude and make excuses as to why it isn't being addressed appropriately. This is by far the worst school my daughter has attended. Two years in a row her teacher has over scheduled conferences and ours is always the one that gets pushed back! It's ridiculous!

This is the best elementary school my girls have ever been in. We are military and move a lot. My girls always felt welcomed and the teaching is wonderful. It still has that small hometown feeling, but with up to date curriculum. All the other kids seem to be respectful and the school does not tolerate bullying at all. I can't believe it's only rated a 5/10. Last year it was rated 8/10 and still should be.

Moved from North Thurston School District to Tumwater because of all the great things I had heard. I am not that impressed with the leadership at this school. I think the curriculum is solid and that is a plus. I do hear my daughter complain about fairness and it just seems that they let big issues slide and minor incidents become priority. It appears there may be some favoritism going on inside the school coming from the top.....

I have been at the East Olympia School almost every day for several years. I've never found the office staff to be anything but helpful and courteous. The reviewer below maligns the principal and is rude enough to actually mention her name. She has been the principal all the time I've been involved with the school and during that time East Olympia has won several state and national awards. It also has almost zero staff turnover. That doesn't happen in schools with poor leadership. My guess is the parent tried to circumvent some policy or was rude to the staff and is now throwing a tantrum because he/she didn't get his/her way. Before you place any trust in a review like that, consider how immature a parent must be to trash their own kids school because they're mad.

We're a military family, and this is the first US school our kids have attended after three overseas assignments. The teachers, administrative staff, and Principal have all worked together to help guide our kids and ease their (our) culture shock. The teachers' team approach to classes has worked well for my 5th grader. The kindergarten classes accomplish so much in a short time; our 6 year old is reading and writing now at the end of his K year. Bullying is addressed immediately and followed up with the Principal each time. The classrooms are not oversized, with about a 22:1 ratio in our kids' rooms. We were worried about our kids' integration into the US school system, but this team of educators has allayed any hesitation we had. We are returning for next year with a 6th, 1st, and Kindergartner.

not very happy with the overall school from the way problems are handled administrative side. the teachers are nice but too many student to teacher ratio to get the personalized attention students need.

The students are well grounded, the teachers are compassionate and challenging, the principal is well liked and well known among the students, the staff is kind and helpful, and families (not just parents) are regularly involved in activities at school. My kids have blossomed greatly after moving here from another district. The difference was astounding.
