Our Lady Star of the Sea School

This Catholic school promotes itself as an “inclusive and welcoming environment,” but after two years as a parent, I have found it to be deeply insular and unfair.
The same pastor has been in charge for nearly 20 years, and the current principal and administrative team are tightly connected through strong personal and family ties. Because of this, there is virtually no room for differing opinions. Legitimate concerns and questions from parents are almost always ignored or given only superficial responses.
The current principal’s behavior is particularly troubling. She is extremely warm, friendly, and engaging with a small group of favored families, but becomes noticeably cold, curt, and dismissive toward other parents — especially those who raise questions or voice concerns. In many cases, she simply ignores them. This blatant double standard is widely noticed by other families.
During School Masses, the pastor consistently calls only on children from these same favored families for readings and special roles, while other students are routinely overlooked. Special opportunities and recognition are also almost exclusively reserved for this small, select group of families.
Since the school adopted a full inclusive education model, academic support has suffered due to a lack of properly trained and qualified staff. As a result, the overall academic quality has clearly declined.
For a Catholic school that claims to value fairness, community, and transparency, the current leadership has serious and fundamental problems. I strongly recommend that families considering this school proceed with caution and thoroughly explore other options.

I went to school there back in 1985. Its was a very good school. I remember sister Amanda was a very nice person. I really enjoyed going to school there.

We have three kids in attendance at OLSOS. The priest gives phenomenal Friday homilies that educate, inspire, and meet kids where they're at. The principal is outstanding, and the teachers really seem to care while providing a quality education. OLSOS also provides a one of a kind PE program which we believe helps our kids perform better in the classroom and in life in general. Our family has had a very good experience and find the size of this school perfect.
