Communication is inadequate, and planning is often left to the last minute. While the community exists, it lacks engagement. Progress is slow, with an old-school mentality holding things back. Growth requires forward momentum. The director, whose approach to listening is outdated, needs to step aside for more innovative leadership. The dormitory program has been in development, on and off, for nearly 15 years with minimal progress. There are hardly any activities for the dorm students, which inevitably leads to problems. Overall, this school needs fresh perspectives and stronger programming to thrive.

I am a teacher at Spring Street. The small classroom size allows us to be flexible with each student and give them opportunities to grow in their own unique way. The administration is supportive of innovation in the classroom. We are allowed, even urged, to match our lesson plans with the personality of each student and the class.

Very bad boarding. Students aren't helped well. School only want big boarding money.

SSIS is great for my son, who is now in the 7th grade. The school has grown to 100 students with 25 international boarding students. The teachers are great: dedicated, brilliant, compassionate, master teachers who care. The year began with everyone going backpacking for 1-week in the Cascades. Classes are hard, but the teachers are supportive and find a way to reach each student. When he gets to high school, he will have 15 AP's to choose from. This spring, he will travel to the Oregon coast with his class. Older students will travel to DC/NY, walk the Camino de Santiago, and trek in India. All this for under $13,000 and they somehow give out lots of scholarships. At $40,000 for their boarding program, it is less expensive than a NYC day school. My daughter cannot wait to be old enough to go.
