My personal experience from this school was awesome. The teachers are funny, they teach us good, and everyone is kind to each other. The people there are always for help and the food is great! The people there are also very kind and playful. The recess is awesome with many playground equipment and the school is just awsome

The school's Principal is lacking in communication skills with parents. We found this to be true with all our kids who went through this school. We wished we had another option but were always told we couldn't transfer due to overcrowded schools in this District. We mostly found them either rude or unresponsive to concerns. They didn't consistently notify us when our child was injured or bullied and when this was brought to their attention they became defensive. There aren't many activities the kids do such as music/art/enrichment during the year. Most activities are offered through other agencies that are separate from the school. The way they treat families involved in special education is also dismal. Once our kids went to middle school there was a huge difference in how teachers and school leadership treat students and families - like a breath of fresh air. We would not recommend this school.

We had a great experience in 4th grade. We are a non-English native family; we always felt secure and supported, and my daughter had a fantastic teacher. We are hoping to keep this good experience several years more with our kindergartner.

Can't trust leadership at this school. There are some great individuals working here, but the overall experience has been terrible.

My son is in the hi-cap program, but I’ve received very little info on what they’re doing to challenge him and make sure he’s receiving hi-cap services. Tried contacting the school, but no one knows who handles this service.

I haven’t seen or heard anything special. We transferred from LWSD and this school doesn’t even almost compare. I’m tempted to drive an hour everyday to keep my kids at their previous school.

Principal is virtually invisible to students and parents. There was a bus mix up and several 1st-3rd graders were left to themselves in the gym. No call, no email and a rude, unhelpful response when I called transportation. I tried to email every contact on the school’s website, NONE were valid email addresses. VERY UNHAPPY.

I would give it a 2 out of 10. The school needs updating, playground needs work, and they have very little enrichment programs for students. I gave it a 2 for the “popcorn Friday’s”...

The teacher this year has been an issue for multiple kids in the class. They learn off of worksheets rather than actual teaching which is ineffective. She is cold towards students and parents. There has been issues with bullying as well and the teacher does not really address it. The teacher is also completely inflexible. If your kid does not get it she gets mad instead of approaching from another angle to help them learn.

The principal is a good guy. Very open and honest about the school system being a broken one that doesnt adjust to students needs. If it wasn't for him keeping the teacher in line my kid would be so much worse off.

My son has a reading teacher for extra support but other than that it has been a pretty rigid learning experience this year.

I know a few kids who have been bullied all year. It has been brought up to the school on multiple occasions and continues to happen.

My 1st grader often feels overwhelmed by homework. The constant stacks of worksheets is a bit ridiculous.

Like all schools in Washington, they lie quite a bit about the ratio of students to teachers. Sunnycrest reports 18 students per teacher, but the typical class size is really 32 students to 1 teacher with no aids. So that 1 teacher is going to spend all her time insisting she's to busy to teach your kid. If you report bullying, the staff will find a way to punish your child. The office staff is hostile and lazy. The only way for your child to have a good educational experience is to be white, living here forever, donating money, and part of the PTA.

This school is incredible. From the principal, down to the Janitor, and everyone in between, they're all great people! It's a compassionate place, where understanding, acceptance and intelligence lead the way. We moved to Lake Stevens specifically for Sunnycrest, and it's the best decision we've made to date. The volunteer opportunities are plentiful, and they encourage you (the parents) to be as active in the school as possible. There are service clubs and after school clubs for the kids. There's Watch Dogs for dad's, reading programs, and a great PTA for the parents. Heck, sometimes I just come to recess to play. It's everything that an elementary school is supposed to be, and then some. Best. School. Ever.

I haven't seen any bullying. I've seen things happen that could've had the potential, but nothing was allowed to reach critical mass. They even have a buddy bench that I sit at frequently. Someone always comes to play jump rope with me, and yes, I am the parent.

Having had experience with the staff, in dealing with an IEP, I can unequivocally say that there's an incredible system of support here. If you don't find that for your student here, you're doing it wrong.

The schools motto says it all. "Be safe. Be fair. Be kind. Be ready to learn." I'm also pretty sure that the principal has his own Sunnycrest sweater, and I swear I've seen him change into slippers in his office before. I'm not saying he's Mr. Rodgers, I'm just saying that I've never seen them in the same room before.

From the multiple teachers we've experienced in grades second through fifth, there hasn't been much homework. The most important homework that's been consistent through the years, has been reading twenty minutes a day. Which falls right in line with the most recent studies about children and homework. Same with the start time. It may be late for some, but research shows it's when kids should be starting their day.

We moved in the middle of the school year last year. The teachers and students were wonderful in including our child and making him feel accepted. He has participated in after school clubs (that range from scrapbooking to coding) and he absolutely loved them! Anything that I have brought up to the staff had been addressed promptly.

We absolutely loved this school. The support and teaching methods used with our child were absolutely spot-on. The administration has such a hands on approach, making every child know that they can succeed. Our child thrived here and learned so much! We were very, very sorry to move on to middle school which has exactly the opposite culture. Wish we could've taken all of the teachers & administration from this school with us to the middle school - it is sad for us there. We miss you all so much, especially Mr. Haines & his great staff.

We love Sunnycrest and are so happy to be a part of the Sunnycrest community. I deducted one star because of classroom size, but I know all the schools in the district (and area) are in the same boat. I feel like the principal is extremely accessible and friendly, and has always been very responsive. My experience with the teachers have all been positive. I believe they truly care about the kids and education. I do think there is frustration with classroom size, which shows sometimes. My daughter is happy and thriving though, and that's top priority for me!

This school is wonderful. I have made the effort to get to know the faculty and have always kept in touch with the teachers, principal and staff at Sunnycrest, and they need that. As a result, Sunnycrest has been extremely supportive to our children and family as a whole. A parent has to be part of the school experience for a child, I have done that and Sunnycrest has far exceeded my expectations as a result. Unfortunately, we are moving to Oregon this summer and will have to attend a school that can never top the experience of a Sunycrest education. My two children were new to this school, and came into the school year late. I would give the school another star if it weren't or the office staff. I DREAD having to deal with them. They always seem too bothered to give you their full attention, and half the time don't relay the messages I've asked them to give to teachers. When we came in to register it was like pulling teeth to get any information. No handbook, no lunch menu, no nothing. I had to sit there and ask the less then thrilled secretary every question I wanted answered. You know, really frivilous questions like....What time does school start?, where do my kids line up before school, where do I pick them up?, how does lunch work? I still find this school unwelcoming.
