Summer is the perfect time to get the kids out of the house and to have some fun. There are plenty of Summer camps in the Biloxi and Gulfport areas, however, the average camp runs up to $200 per week. I've compiled a list of affordable and great things to do on the Gulf Coast. Reading is Fun Harrison County Libraries have free summer reading programs, and most run weekly. The programs are an hour long, and within that hour, children will see a special guest, listen to stories, and make crafts, all while being encouraged to read. Virginia Zoo in Norfolk The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is a 53-acre zoo located adjacent to Lafayette Park in Norfolk, Virginia. The zoo opened in 1900, and was accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in 1987. Hours: Sunday hours 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Our Favorites at the Zoo in Norfolk Giraffes - I love to see the giraffes interacting with the other animals and reaching up to eat leaves off a tree. Merging Two Cultures in One City One thing that has surprised me while living in El Paso is how close we are to another country. Mexico is across the bridge from Texas and its’ influence is seen throughout the city. The influence of Mexico is seen through the Spanish language used along with the Mexican cuisine served in many restaurants.
